Statement on Client Privacy and the National Autism Registry
In light of recent announcements about the proposed creation of a national autism registry, which claims to support autism research by aggregating vast amounts of personal health data without clear safeguards or informed consent, I want to reassure you that the results from evaluations conducted through my practice remain fully private and confidential. NeurodivUrgent does not share your health information with any of the sources the government will be using to create their registry, nor do we host your private data on a platform that they can access.
According to current public reports, the government intends to collect data from the following sources:
Pharmacy chains
Laboratory testing facilities
Genomic datasets from federal agencies (e.g., Veterans Affairs and Indian Health Services)
Private insurance claims
Medicare/Medicaid databases
Wearable health devices
Importantly, none of these sources intersect with the medical records systems used by NeurodivUrgent. The electronic health record software we use is independently maintained and siloed from the commercial, governmental, and insurance databases identified in this initiative. This means that your records are stored securely and are accessible only to you and me, unless you explicitly authorize otherwise.
I understand that privacy is essential, especially for personal health data. I am actively monitoring developments related to the proposes national autism registry and will continue to take every measure necessary to protect your information and adjust practices accordingly.
If you have any concerns or questions about your privacy, I welcome you to reach out directly.
Sincerely,
Dr. Duncan M. Dickson, PhD
Executive Director and Chief Psychologist
